Logo might be combined with brand name/trademark name DebOps as a combination mark or a logo only as a pictorial mark. In case of logo only, creative ideas about relationship with brand name/trademark name DebOps are welcome as well. Preference is combination mark.
Logo has to "work" in various environments - Web browsers, command-line interface and e.g. plain paper - and different sizes, ranging from favicon or icon size to the dimensions of a billboard. And as well, in it's original colors and in grey scale.
If any kind of font is considered to be used as part of DebOps logo or in combination with, free and open source fonts (aka typeface) are must.
Do not use any use any kind of closed source typefaces/fonts or graphic design elements.
For graphic logo proposals, preferred file format is .svg, as it is an open standard (W3C SVG) and also offers a great deal of flexibility for smooth conversion in other file formats, as e.g. .pdf, .png, .gif, etc., and for various use cases.
You agree irrevocably to transfer intellectual property rights to DebOps project by adding your logo proposal to this DebOps git repository, but only in case of selection of your work as DebOps logo. Furthermore you understand the need of such demand, as logo is part of DebOps identity and identity can't be owned by any 3rd party, but by DebOps project on behalf of DebOps Community only.

One additional nice property of a logo is if it can be rotated 180 ° and still looks the same. That would avoid the problem when the logo is sticked to a laptop case (on the backside of the display). Was mentioned in a podcast that Apple seems to have changed the rotation of their logo on some i* devices recently. Anyway.
The logo is the visual/graphic design of DebOps.
The actually used DebOps logo is a graphic design without brand name/trademark name DebOps. Very likely it's a fork/revised version of the Tango icon Network server; Tango icons are under Public domain license.
