Purpose:

From the Latin Paten, meaning open, the raison d’etre for the Paten District is securing intellectual property rights for innovations occurring on the district0x network.

Description:

As innovation occurs on the district0x network, the Paten District will provide services for protecting the underlying intellectual property. Ownership in all IP will be transferred to a nonprofit foundation, owned by the community, incorporated for the public good. In turn, the intellectual property assets will serve to secure value within the network, fossilizing creations and fostering future innovation. In the spirit of open innovation, all IP may be made publicly available through the GNU License. Any community member wishing to secure copyrights or patents for district0x innovations may simply make a request on the Patent District repo. Then, the IP will be captured and assigned to the foundation, according to community election.
