We’re excited to share that we’ve officially started working on Dark Mode for Univer! This feature has been widely requested, and we’re committed to delivering a polished, user-friendly experience.

This pinned issue will serve as:

  • A progress tracker for the development of Dark Mode.
  • A central hub for sharing updates and collecting feedback.

We want to keep you informed and engaged throughout this process!

🚧 Current Progress

We’ve broken the development process into several key stages. Below is a live progress tracker to keep you up to date:

  • Define requirements: Identify all UI elements and components that need Dark Mode support.
  • Design the color palette: Choose accessible and visually appealing colors for the dark theme.
  • Implement core Dark Mode styles: Update the framework, UI components, and Canvas rendering engine to ensure full support for the new theme.
  • Add a theme switcher: Allow users to toggle between Light and Dark modes.
  • Test and refine: Ensure consistency and fix any visual bugs.
  • Community feedback: Open beta testing for early adopters to gather suggestions and improvements.

We’ll update this list regularly as we hit new milestones.

🛠️ Challenges and Considerations

Here are some of the challenges we’re actively addressing during development:

  • Ensuring color contrast meets accessibility standards (WCAG compliance).
  • Handling complex components like charts, tables, and modals to make them visually consistent.
  • Supporting seamless transitions between Light and Dark modes.
  • Your input can help us identify areas we might overlook!

📢 How You Can Contribute

We’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback as we build Dark Mode.

  • Are there specific features or design elements you’d like us to prioritize?
  • Have you faced any frustrations with Dark Mode in other applications that we can learn from?
  • Would you like to participate as an early tester once the beta is ready?

Please share your ideas in the comments below.

📅 Next Steps

  1. Complete the initial Dark Mode implementation for core components.
  2. Test the theme across different devices and browsers.
  3. Open a beta release for user testing.

We’ll keep this issue updated with the latest progress and announcements.

Thank you for supporting Univer! We’re excited to bring this feature to life with your help. Stay tuned for more updates. 🙌
