Paintbrush [Mac Paint] are there better Open Source Alternatives in 2022?

Whenever I need to edit an image (e.g: screenshot) to illustrate a specific section/element, my GOTO is Paintbrush.

I've had a brief look at https://github.com/jaywcjlove/awesome-mac but nothing jumped out at me.

• Research if there are alternatives that a similarly simple UI but potentially have more advanced editing features.

I've always and only have used Lightshot, which is widely used on both Mac and Windows devices. It's not open-source, though.

Still, it makes screenshotting and editing that much easier. When compared with Mac's build-in screenshot system, it's no comparison. However, there have been some privacy concerns that have been exacerbated, since the app allows people to upload the images. You don't need to if you don't want to.

There's an open-source alternative called Greenshot for both Windows and Mac (2 dollars on Mac to cover costs), though.

You can do basic editing with pencil, rectangles... You can add text but I don't think there's a way to change the font size. You can also reverse google search, if you want to.
