  • 1999: Java Advanced Imaging API 1.0.0 initial release of Java Advanced Imaging API by Sun Microsystems using Binary Distribution License / Java Research License
  • 2006: Java Advanced Imaging API 1.1.3 final release
  • 2015: JAI-EXT 1.0.0 release by GeoSolutions offering improved performance and reimplementing many operations to support GIS datasets.
  • 2017 LocationTech Raster Processing Engine project started to offer a replacement for Java Advanced Imaging after careful review of available image processing libraries.
  • 2019 restructure review migrating project from LocationTech Raster Processing Engine to Eclipse ImageN selecting Apache License v 2.0 for the reformed project.
  • 2019 Oracle contribution of Java Advanced Imaging API to Eclipse ImageN including codebase and demos/tutorial/docs.
