In MacOS, some wallpapers have a darker variant while others don't. You can click on one that has variants and select if you want it static or changing according to the time of day.
I think it's also the case in Ubuntu's wallpaper picker, but I haven't tried it since the wallpapers that seem to have this feature are not interesting.
While I wouldn't support just dimming the background, it would be nice if there was a separate picture taken at exactly the same place and angle to serve as variants. I guess that would require new images to pass this repo's standards in both day and night pictures to be added here, though...
use komorebi to adapt the background to the theme or two versions of the wallpaper one for the light theme and one for the dark theme
