Hi @gerhas,

I'm sorry to say that I can't do too much about it. The main problem is that Gnome Shell extensions are not running in separate threads, but shares a single one. It means while system monitor calculates statistics, the drawing of the GUI is on hold. Few easy to do ticks have been applied already to make refreshing faster, but it's still noticeable in certain cases like you said.
So if anyone has a good suggestion it's time to share it. :)
