"It has been reported that the software is able to cause irretrievable damages to your computer."

Is this still the case in this fork?

Went and tried it anyway. It appears to work!

Simple menu bar icon. With 4 options (when external screen plugged in):

Color LCD- > Enable / Disable
Samsung -> Enable / Disable
Detect Monitors
Toggle Mirror Mode

About
Quit

It works perfectly!

Just Disable Color LCD, both screens will switch off and external screen comes on again. LCD stays off. (not just 0 brightness, so there is no power draw or fps drop!).

It's perfect, the backlit keyboard on the MacBook Pro works just like normal but with the screen off.

Running on MacOs Catalina and MBP

Only quirk is that the brightness of the LCD (black) screen sometimes increases. You should turn off auto brightness on the LCD to pervent this. Or just kill the brightness using F1.
