The most recent MacOS build on the Releases page is 0.99.6.2 from Sep 26, 2020, which was just under three years ago.

I assume there is supposed to be a 0.99.7 build for MacOS available to download, but there is only the Windows version available.

Also noticed this, and sure wish we had a version that we could use that is up-to-date!

Is this project dead? What happened @ephtracy? Is everything OK?

... another Mac user here. With the highest of respect, I wish this project was handed over to more active maintainers, such potential.

Has anyone found a workaround? What can we do to use it?

FWIW I installed the Windows 0.99.7 release under Crossover and it works without issues as a workaround. I wish we had things like Cmd-z to undo, but I'm happy it runs on my laptop at all now.

Hi @ephtracy, I also look for a newer macos build. if the project is no longer supported, would you consider releasing the source code as opensource?

Hey macOS folks, I saw many of you want to use the latest MagicaVoxel release but the developer didn't provide one for your plaform, I don't know what could be the reason, but I think I could help you a little bit with some workarounds.

I use MagicaVoxel on Linux through Wine and it works perfectly out of the box, since Wine works in macOS too, you could try the latest release with Wine until @ephtracy confirms if the Mac version is no longer getting developed or else.

How to use MagicaVoxel on macOS with Wine

Get the latest release of MagicaVoxel, and then run it with one of the methods listed down below.

1. Using macOS Wine builds

This the official repo of Wine for macOS, and it's the most straightforward way to get Wine for your Mac, this is very simple and here's a YouTube tutorial on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC7CNiRoo5I

I recommend this if you only want to use Wine for MagicaVoxel.

2. Using third party apps

As @yamamushi mentioned, you can use Crossover to run MagicaVoxel and other windows apps with Wine, it's a paid app but comes with a free trial and it seems pretty good, there's also another free program called WineBottler, but it seems like it's no longer developed.

I suggest you go with Crossover.

3. Using Homebrew

This is the way intended in the official Wine documentation for macOS, however, it requires Homebrew, and doing stuff from the Terminal, which is pretty inconvenient for regular users in my opinion.

You can use this too, but the first 2 methods above are way more comfortable for most people, if you already use Homebrew, you can follow the documentation instructions.

I hope this is helpful for most of you!!!

He guys, I recommend using Whisky to run MagicaVoxel on a Mac. Whisky is a graphical wrapper for Wine. So it comes with an easy installation and a graphical interface, plus you can run supported windows games via steam. MagicaVoxel 0.99.7.1 runs without any problems.
