<td align="left" valign="top" class="text"><p>The most important thing in the EM simulation is to generate a correct model, but it is not so easy if the model is complicated. For an imported model, it is usually ill-conditioned, therefore, we need to fix the model problems or may need to modify some pieces. Recently, GEMS has a new feature to generate the conformal array on the arbitrary shaped objects. </p>
<p>(1) If the surface can be expressed as an analytic formula, GEMS can generate the conformal patch array to fit the curved surface completely in the arbitrary pattern. For example, we use the following steps to generate a patch array on the parabolic surface:</p>
<p>(i) Draw a thin PEC plate along the Z-direction.</p>
<p>(ii) Use the transform option in GEMS to generate a parabolic structure.</p>
<p>(iii) Select the "Select face" icon in the "Geometry" box and use the mouse to select the outer surface of the parabolic structure, and then duplicate a surface. </p>
<p>(iv) Draw an element unit at the central point in the arbitrary shape.</p>
<p>(v) Select the "Tools->FSS Pattern Cal" option and specify the pattern parameters in the popup window.</p>
<p>(vi) Input the output file path and name with an extension name "sft", in which the array location information will be stored. Specify the origin point, distance between the adjacent units measured from the center to center.</p>
<p>(vii) Select the element unit in the "Object Browser" box, and then click the "Hard Clone" button in the toolbar.</p>
<p>(viii) Click the "Load" button to import the "*.sft" to the data table. Click the "OK" button to generate the patch array on the curved surface.</p>
<p>The patch generation using the method above may not completely fit to the curved surface especially for the large patch size. Follow the steps below to generate completely matched conformal patch:</p>
<p>(i) Generate the element unit, and add a proper thickness.</p>
<p>(ii) Ensure the center of element unit is at the origin point.</p>
<p>(iii) Following the same procedure above to generate an array.</p>
<p>(iv) Duplicate the curved surface by using the "Ctrl + c" and then "Ctrl + v".</p>
<p>(v) Select one curved surface and the array, and then click on the "Subtract" button in the toolbar. The curved surface and array should be in the Main and Tool boxes, respectively, in the popup window. We got the conformal slot array using the steps above. </p>
<p>(vi) To get the conformal patch array, we use the original curved surface to subtract the slot array. </p>
<p>Follow the similar steps to generate a patch array on the car roof that has an arbitrary shape. The patch shape can be also arbitrary.</p>
