I used Rhythmbox 3.4.1-2ubuntu1 with libgpod4 0.8.3-8.1 to copy music files from an 3rd generation iPod nano onto my computer. I did not write any files to the iPod or intentionally modify it in any way, but when I unmounted the iPod, and tried to use it, it appears empty. I plugged it back into the computer, and can see all the files with a file browser or in Rhythmbox, but iPod itself claims to be empty and have no songs.
This bug has been reported in the Rhythmbox bug tracker, but I suspect the underlying problem is in libgpod.
