We should allow:

-- type size: decimal

Should type aliases be interchangeable? Eg:

-- integer foo: 10

-- type bar: integer
-- bar x: $foo

For type enforcement etc I feel we should not.

How about type casting?

-- integer foo: 10

-- type bar: integer
-- bar x: $foo as bar

I don't see a problem with this.
