The final release candidate for lotus v1.11.1 - lotus v1.11.1-rc3 is now available!

With the help from MinerX fellows, we have further improved the Markets Subsystem code implementation and have user guides ready, give them a look now so you can get ready and split your markets node as soon as the final release is out(Aug 16th):

• Splitting the main miner and markets service processes: learn more about the concepts, architecture, and how to set it up!
• As mentioned in the guide above, it is highly recommended to run the mining and markets process on separate physical or virtual machines, however, it is still beneficial to run the process separately on the same machine (more details here), here are the best practice suggested by MinerX Fellows for different setups:
  • Running all storage provider subsystems on the same box
  • Running storage provider systems in the different boxes

Lotus Release Flow

In the past few months, in addition, to develop new features, improvements, and bug fixes, the lotus team has also been working on and practicing a better software delivery process so that we continue to deliver high-quality software to our community.
The full lotus release flow can be found here and it describes how the lotus team plans to ship lotus releases. Interested parties, including storage providers, node operators, developers, and so on can expect new lotus releases to come out as described in the linked document. High-level Summary

• Major releases (1.0.0, 2.0.0, etc.) are reserved for significant changes to the Filecoin protocol that transform the network and its use cases. Such changes could include the addition of new Virtual Machines to the protocol, major upgrades to the Proofs of Replication used by Filecoin, etc.
• Even minor releases (1.2.0, 1.4.0, etc.) of the Lotus software correspond to mandatory releases as they ship Filecoin network upgrades. Users must upgrade to these releases before a certain time in order to keep in sync with the Filecoin network. We aim to ensure there is at least one week before the upgrade deadline.
• Patch versions of even minor releases (1.2.1, 1.4.2, etc.) correspond to hotfix releases. Such releases will only be shipped when a critical fix is needed to be applied on top of a mandatory release.
• Odd minor releases (1.3.0, 1.5.0, etc.), as well as patch releases in these series (1.3.1, 1.5.2, etc.), correspond to feature releases with new development and bug fixes. These releases are not mandatory, but still highly recommended, as they may contain critical security fixes.
• We aim to ship a new feature release of the Lotus software every 3 weeks, so users can expect a regular cadence of Lotus feature releases. Note that mandatory releases for network upgrades may disrupt this schedule.

Deal and data transfer throttling survey

With more and more clients onboarding to the network and brokers like Estuary developed by ARG, the demand of storage service for Filecoin Network is higher than ever! As that happens, it’s very important for storage providers to be able to manage dealing rate based on your system setup and resources.

Therefore, we’d like to know how do you think data transfer throttling should be implemented in lotus. There are multiple options we can approach this and we are wondering what’s the preferred way based on your system and operation. Please read the options we are considering listed in the Data Transfer Rate-limiting discussion and leave a comment.
This survey will be open until this Wednesday and we are aiming to get this feature in lotus v1.11.4!!

Special Call-out to CID gravity

Related to above, tooling to help storage provider to manage deal acceptance (via a visual UI to setup Dealmaking.Filter in lotus), CID gravity (built by @julien NOEL in filecoin slackand his team), is now officially open for all community members to try after weeks of testing with MinerX fellows.
