Upgrading the PostgreSQL Database

Upgrading PostgreSQL to a new version is not necessary for most use cases. If you want to do so regardless, there are quite a few steps that you need to follow. It is not possible to do an in-place upgrade and keep using the existing database entries. Instead, you need to install the new version parallel to the old version and transfer the data from the old version to the new one.
