ODIES planning

Getting started in this repo

You'll need a Python environment that contains both the development version of HOPP and the development version of GreenHEART. If you have that already, simply run:

pip install -e .

at the top level of this repo. Then you can try running any one of the to ensure your installation was successful. Currently, all necessary packages for this repo are already dependencies of either HOPP or ODIES.

If you don't want to modify your existing environments, you can create a new conda environment, install the development versions of HOPP and ODIES, then install this package.

Examples currently included

01_dummy_wind

This is the simplest example possible; a single technology is producing a single type of resource. In this case, a mock wind turbine is ingesting wind speed data and outputting electricity. This example is a stepping stone to develop more of the framework.

02_dummy_wind_electrolyzer

Now the mock wind turbine is coupled to a mock electrolyzer. The electricity is coupled between the technologies through the framework's connection handling.

03_wind_plant_electrolyzer

We're now running an actual wind plant and grabbing meaningful electricity outputs and those electricity values are being passed to a mock electrolyzer. This example helped work out how to pass in config data to a technology.

04_feedstock_electrolyzer

This example is similar to the prior one, but we're now using a "feedstock" that's producing electricity instead of having a wind plant. This is a stepping stone to having a more complex feedstock technologies that can serve as drop-in replacements for other technologies.

05_wind_h2_opt

This is the same system as the prior example, but we add plant optimization capability. It's a simple optimization problem, but this shows how we can add a driver to the problem.

06_hopp_h2

This example introduces HOPP as a single block in the ODIES paradigm. This isn't where we want to be in the end of this ODIES reformulation, but it is an important stepping stone as it allows us to focus on the rest of the framework and non-HOPP technologies while treating HOPP as a monolith.

07_wind_ammonia

This example is a simple ammonia plant that's being fed by a wind plant.

08_onshore_steel_mn

This example is a simple steel plant that's being fed by a hybrid plant and electrolyzer. This is akin to the 01 reference design in the GreenHEART repo.
