Update Wiki: Add Network Configuration Step for "Install umbrelOS on a Linux VM" #1951

I’d like to propose an update to the wiki page titled Install umbrelOS on a Linux VM. Specifically, at the end of the installation process, right after the installation ISO is removed, it would be helpful to include an additional step regarding network settings.

RACCOMMEND users change the default network adapter setting (usually NAT) to Bridge Adapter in their VM's network settings.

SINCE with NAT, only the host machine can access the Umbrel service via umbrel.local or the local IP but with Bridge Adapter, the service will also be accessible from other devices on the same network.

NOTE that this step isn’t mandatory but can be useful if the umbrel.local link or local IP isn’t reachable from other devices.

Other boring stuff:

  • NAT (Network Address Translation): Allows the virtual machine to share the host’s network connection, but it assigns the VM a private IP address that is isolated from the rest of the local network, somehow like it was a VLAN with only one device.
  • Bridge Adapter: Connects the VM directly to the physical network, assigning it an IP address within the same range as other devices, making it discoverable and accessible to other devices.

Including this clarification in the wiki will help users avoid network-related accessibility issues and improve the overall experience with UmbrelOS.

Would love to hear feedback or suggestions from the team! ^^
