I recommend anyone who is interested in this project to see VESC bldc in https://github.com/vedderb it uses DRV8302 and STM32f4. The next version of VESC firmware/hardware will have FOC.
Its buck converter works. It is used in electronic vehicles and also useful for robotics. See VESC features here: http://vedder.se/2015/01/vesc-open-source-esc

Small suggestion: perhaps add a line in your readme to point to the VESC bldc repository, for people who are interested in an actively developed ESC with future FOC support? Then the issue can be closed.
