I suggest either:

(Recommended) An additional count that excludes blank lines. Perhaps for a presentation like

Selected 4 Lines (3 non-blank lines)

... or ...

An option to exclude blank lines from the count.

I don't know JS myself, hence I won't be able to put up a PR, but I found, that there is this .isEmptyOrWhitespace thing which might help to achieve this.
