STP to STL #4
Comments
Most hobbyists would find the stp file very suitable as you can easily open it with most cad modelling software, Onshape has a great free version. You can then split the model into parts and export each individually as stl. If the goggles stp was converted to stl it would just be a single piece, no use for tweaking or printing. |
Perhaps it is just because I'm still learning to use GitHub, but I'm having issues saving the stp file onto my computer. |
Actually noticed that indeed I can directly open the STP in my CAD. So possibly the only improvement would be to add the README that STP are STEP files that can generally be imported directly in most CAD. |
Yes, step files extension is .stp |
I learned that recently. My point is just to say it in the README. I'll suggest a PR. |
FreeCAD converts rather well without too much resolution downgrade. |
It's great to have the source material however STP isn't very common for hobbist. I'd suggest to have STL version in releases (or 3MF).
I saw https://imagetostl.com/convert/file/step/to/stl to convert which could work for now. However I don't think it's converting accurately (very low poly).
Also a short paragraph about the tool would be great:
