Is this the reason that Volla Messages doesn't show updates for new incoming messages on macOS? What is the mitigation strategy?

• Installed release 0.7.4 on aarch64 and x86_64 macs on a local LAN
• Added two new contacts, one on each mac's Volla Messages installation (one using the other's short hc... code, then the other using the longer hc... code; using the short code to add a contact doesn't work and ends up with a duplicate contact - a separate issue)

Messages sent only appear on the other after restarting Volla Messages (or after a very long time; some just showed up after a 50m delay...)

Hi @pjkundert thanks for the report. No I don't think this ticket is related to your issues, but I want to make sure we're tracking them.

It sounds like you experienced 3 issues, which I've split out into separate tickets:

1. Very slow to see new messages in a conversation, or else seeing new messages requires restarting the app (split out into Slow to see new messages, or requires restarting app to see new messages #423)
2. Using the short code to add a contact doesn't work (split out into Using the "short code" to add a contact doesn't work #426 -- I'm not able to reproduce it)
3. Using the short code to add a contact creates a duplicate contact (split out into Using the "short code" to add a contact creates a duplicate contact. #424 -- I'm not able to reproduce it, but I see that this flow would create 2 separate conversations with the same contact, and that is unexpected UX. I created another issue to investigate possible alternatives Determanistic DNA Modifiers for private conversations #425)

If you don't mind taking a look at those issues and commenting if you want to add context / clarification.
