We'll get some small-scale experiments and dev sites underway on the Linodes, but if we're going to do anything processor/memory/storage intensive, that's not going to cut it. Infty runs on Windows, but maybe also on WINE. Worth having a Plan A and a Plan B here.

i can take of running Infty on the Windows box I already have
as I have been doing for some time now. However, so far I
have been using the free demo version; to do OCR
experiments and development, I will need to purchase a
license. For now, the $180 license which gives a year or
10000 pages, whichever comes first, should suffice. During
the last meeting, we didn't have a budget report but, if there's
enough money in the account and nothing more immediate
to spend it on, perhaps it could go towards licensing Infty.
As for getting a bigger, faster machine, of course that's important
because we are running at the limits of what we can do with
linodes but at least Infty is covered so we don't have to worry
about installing or emulating Windows on a new machine for
the time being.
