The page says "sending messages only", which I personally interpreted as me sending messages FROM my device, to the Home Assistant instance, where it does not reply, so I could send a command and it could be a trigger in an automation.
After trying to get this to work and failing, I realised that it means sending messages FROM the Home Assistant instance, aka as a notification, and to my device.
The text:
Telegram implementation to support sending messages only.
Should be:
Telegram implementation to support sending messages from Home Assistant only.
Or maybe my understanding is actually the correct one and I'm just super confused?
