copy/paste does not work in automation value template editor

I am just starting my HA journey, but encountering this problem both in the macOS app (Mabook Pro M1, Sonoma) and in the browser (Safari).
pasting within the demo code in the template editor arbitrarily removes parts of the exiting text, while trying to paste in the empty editor does nothing.
