filter bottle - some options so on this topic this post on Amazon, had a good answer (lang translated) for Sawyer product:
It is important to understand what a filter is, it retains the particles, elements, cells (bacteria) which are above its retention threshold which, in the case of this filter, is announced at 0.1 micrometer. In the pharmaceutical industry, the standard for so-called "sterilizing" filtration is 0.22 micrometers; therefore filters that are 0.22 or less (like here, 0.1) are said to sterilize fluids by retaining bacteria (which, roughly speaking, are typically on the order of 1 micron in size). Of course the filter will also retain all solids, crystals, insoluble substances, etc. BUT what is DISSOLVED is not of this domain. For example dissolved salt, dissolved minerals (calcium ions, magnesium, etc.) are obviously passing! Alas, also organic contaminants, urea, pesticides.
- If you want to filter out organic products, you must add an activated carbon filter which will absorb / adsorb these components.
- If you no longer want the slightest trace of dissolved minerals (it does not make sense, the taste qualities of water and its virtues require it), you have to distill it and collect the condensates to have water demineralized.
- If you want to remove viruses that are smaller than the bacterial threshold, you have to resort to nanofiltration or additional chemical disinfectants or additional boiling.
for same product- one recommendation was to go for Drinksafe Travel Tap. this has a carbon filter as well ... so i'm in for a bit extra monies:
