It would be better to query more regularly than once each 24h, as some mines with eventual problems (which could range from network to deployment issues), don't appear online at the time the Registry queries from them, thus having to wait 24 hours for the next query.
This poses problems as for instance the InterMineR requires a mine to be in the registry to work, hence forcing its users to wait 24 hours to hopefully use it in the particular mine that was offline at the query time.
Note: It's also worth checking if the registry retries a few more times to query each mine on failure, instead of skipping to the next mine after the first try.
