ionic auth error "required_app_id"

I am trying to use the email/password ionic cloud auth service. Whenever I try to signup() users, I get an error saying "required_app_id". I have my app id in my ionic.config.json file, so I don't know why I get this error. I am using ionic 1. Thank you in advance for your help!
