The term/payment selection dropdown for new accounts defaults to one year. This has led to some cases of overpayments by customers who did not see or did not have the opportunity to change the default term from one year to one week or one month prior to paying.
By making the default a non-item (ie. not one year, not one month, etc.), the customer has to make a choice in order to proceed to pay. Hopefully, this will always be the desired choice.
There are at least two instances per week where a customer overpays for a one-year plan instead of a week or a month.
Describe the solution you'd like
Add a non-item to the dropdown list as the default, like Select... or Choose... to prevent an overpayment.
Describe alternatives you've considered

Note: I am not a UX designer, so I am uncertain of the benefits of forcing a choice versus providing a (usually) sane default.
Thanks.
