Is it possible to fast forward a branch without checking it out?

This is possible with git by doing git fetch . origin/branch-name:branch-name even when you are on another branch. This is very useful when you want to checkout the other branch but don't want to checkout a commit so far behind (because the local branch pointer is too far behind) that it triggers a large compilation.

Is this possible with lazygit?

yes, by pressing 'f' on the branch.

I did try that, but now I realize it was because there was no upstream set for that branch.
