Feature Request: Enhanced Video Previews and Larger Thumbnails for News
Hi there! 👋
First of all, I want to congratulate and thank you for creating this amazing RSS news reader app. It’s by far the best reader I’ve come across, especially because of its two-column layout and the ability to comfortably read and organize news. Great job! 👏
That said, I have a couple of suggestions that I believe could further enhance the user experience:
1. Video Previews and Descriptions
Currently, when it comes to news items that include videos (such as YouTube videos or videos from other platforms), only the video title is displayed. It would be fantastic if you could add functionality to display the video preview (thumbnail) and the video description, similar to how it’s done on other platforms. This would allow users to get a better sense of the video content before clicking on it.
For example:
YouTube videos: Display the thumbnail and the video description.
Other video platforms: Show the preview and description if available.
2. Larger Thumbnails for News Previews
Additionally, I’ve noticed that the thumbnails for news articles are quite small and don’t stand out much. It would be great if the preview images for news items could be larger and more visually appealing. A bigger thumbnail would make the news items more engaging and encourage users to click and read the full article. Right now, the small size doesn’t draw much attention, and a more prominent preview would significantly improve the overall experience.
These two improvements—video previews with descriptions and larger thumbnails for news—would make the app even more user-friendly and visually appealing. They would especially benefit users who consume a lot of multimedia content and rely on visuals to decide what to read or watch.
Thank you again for your excellent work and for considering my suggestions! I hope these ideas can be implemented in future updates. 😊
Best regards,

Hey @GrijalvaMarvin, thanks for trying out the app and for the detailed feature request. I definitely want to add better support for YouTube feeds. I started down this route with #621 and have a draft pull request (#663) but I haven't gotten back to it yet.
For images, this is already supported with a global setting. You can find it under Settings > Display & Appearance > Image Preview, and select "Large". Let me know what you think!
Thank you very much, I already found the option for the images in the feed. I'll keep an eye out for the other changes. Excellent app, wishing you much success with your development ❤️
