Keyboard Specific remapping

Hi Everyone,

I use 2 keyboards at home, and wanted to know if it is possible to remap certain keys per specific keyboard. Eg. one of the keyboards is a Magic keyboard, but I would want to match the order of the modifiers with my laptop so all the subsequent remaps and layers work the same in both instances. Is this possible in kanata?

I think this might be possible in all platforms by running two instances with different device-related decfg options. Though on Windows it's only supported with Interception; the standard variant can't differentiate devices.

I'm currently using two separate Kanata configs for different devices on Linux, each with its own systemd service. Questions:

1. Is there a way to define layers for specific devices within a single config file?
2. On initial boot, one of my configs often requires manual restart via systemctl restart. Is this expected behavior or am I missing something?

Regarding 2, might be that the input device for that config is not yet ready by the time Kanata starts up. You could check the syslog to see and also try a different Restart= value.

I think you can define individual environment variables for each of your services in linux. Then you could use the (environment) filter in kanata.
