How to make a "~" dead key

I'm using the US-Layout and I'm trying to create a dead-key using the ` key where it modifies letters to use tilde so (` + a = ã) but if it's pressed with another key it just outputs tilde and that key (` + p = ~p). To do this I create this simple configuration:

I would expect that using this (` + p = ~p) but instead it outputs (`p). I think it's because it doesn't work with modified keys because replacing S-` with a letter for example produces the expected outcome, what would be the easiest way to fix this behavior?

Do you replace

S-` 

with S-a or with a ?

Does both work?

I'm not sure if I explained myself properly in the post but if I change both theS-` in the code to a it works like I would expect. (so pressing ` + p = ap but if I replace it with S-a it does the exact same thing, so it seems modifiers do not work in this context.

Sorry if I'm being confusing, I feel like this is just kind of hard to write about in a clear fashion haha

For me it worked with this config (should be equivalent to yours)

but I used sequence-input-mode visible-backspaced and got S-grv when not typing a

But with sequence-input-mode hidden-delay-type I got just grv

there is a setting sequence-backtrack-modcancel but it didn`t change anything.

Also I use windows interception and non US keyboard layout (replacing grv with a different key changes nothing)

Yes changing it to sequence-input-mode visible-backspaced does seem to fix it, thank you so much! Although I'm not sure if this is intended behavior, I feel like both should work the same.

The hidden variant needs to more precisely keep track of event sequence which it doesn't do correctly today, whereas visible backspace only needs to know how many backspaces to output.
