Is metricStat parameter for CloudWatch Scaler used when passing an expression?

In the CloudWatch Scaler docs, it's implied that several metadata fields of the trigger are not used when passing an expression.

Taking this into account, I want to know if the metricStat field is used when passing an expression. By looking at the code, it doesn´t seem so. Is that right?
