Describe the bug

Go to keyman.com and search for ipa, click on the sil_ipa keyboard and then click on the big green button to install the keyboard.

image

You should now be taken to a page where you expect to "download the keyboard". Click on the green button and see what you get -- instead of the .kmp, you'd get a .exe.

If this is an intended behavior, feel free to close this bug right away.
Also, it this is a keyboard specific issue, please move it to the appropriate repo.

Expected behavior

If the above is the intended behavior, one should be notified that the button is to download both Keyman app and the keyboard.

Otherwise, let's add a label or description to what is going to be downloaded.

This is by design, but yes, I agree:

Otherwise, let's add a label or description to what is going to be downloaded.

It would be good to add a little detail on keyman.com/keyboards/install/sil_ipa to say "Keyman for Windows will be downloaded together with the SIL IPA keyboard. (Learn more...)" or something like that.

Moving this issue to keyman.com repo. Scheduling for 'future' (sorry!)

This sounds like the case where you don't already have Keyman for Windows installed.

If Keyman for Windows was installed, the download button would just get the kmp file.

This sounds like the case where you don't already have Keyman for Windows installed.

If Keyman for Windows was installed, the download button would just get the kmp file.

Right, in that case, it may be helpful to users if a note is given as to what is being downloaded so that they can take action accordingly.

Now, even with Keyman installed, the button (the green one on the page) still download the exe. The sentence there though says it should download the keyboard only. :)

Part of the issue here is that end users who are not familiar with Keyman consider the IPA Keyboard to be the thing that they are downloading. The fact that it is a program called Keyman is secondary. So we have to be very careful with the messaging here so that we don't confuse users further.

This message is already confusing to me "Your IPA (SIL) keyboard download should start shortly. If it does not,
click the button below to start the download." when it comes to what is being downloaded and what it says it does download.
