In a discussion in the doom9 forum people discovered that the MP4Box built by M-AB-S is not able to multiplex dts audio while one out of official GPAC releases is able. @rbouqueau (GPAC maintainer) added several pieces of knowledge; e.g. MP4Box is able to use some libavformat (de)multiplexers if it can't handle some formats in its own. That would mean GPAC should be built after ffmpeg. And it may need to link not only statically. This matter may need to be discussed with competent maintainers.

GPAC maintainer here. If one uses --static-bin then GPAC will disable FFmpeg support.

I haven't investigated the exact reason GPAC can't statically build FFmpeg in this case, it seems like an over-generalization. Is static linking what this project prefers?

As one of the MABS user base, may I suggest yes ... I always build everything static.
Of course, others much smarter than I may feel differently.
