libfuse is preparing a 3.0.0 release with several aditions and some breaking changes, maybe it would be a good idea to start thinking to move to it and add some of the breaking changes it was discussed in the past...

Any gut feeling on how much we need to change to support 3.0.0?

The final release is available at https://github.com/libfuse/libfuse/releases/tag/fuse-3.0.0. It seems there has been a lot of backward incompatible changes... :-/

libfuse has released version 3.1.1, with the major feature that now support FreeBSD without need of patches.
