Ideas for Linux cursor theme #1

Thanks for your help! |
@crutchcorn No Problem! |
I am starting to make some cursors but I have some questions.. What are 'Hotspots' in the .cursor files? Does Material Design suggest cursors to have a slight white border around them? Lastly, what are the specific names for each individual cursor for x11 type cursors? Thanks! And if anyone is interested here are the Chromium Cursors if you want to design off some of them |
@domi-a-philip I haven't worked with cursors and as far as I know there isn't specs for cursors. My best idea would be to follow the spec for system icons. MDI has some if you search "cursor" like this one I don't know what Hotspots or x11 type cursors are so I can't be of help there. Maybe @ibeliever could clue us in. |
@danielhickman Thanks! As for the white border around cursors, I believe the main reason its there is to differentiate the cursor from its surroundings. Should we use it regardless that we are following MD? |
And what should the default size be i.e. 48x48? |
@danielhickman @domi-a-philip The hotspot is the reference point for the cursor used as the point passed to apps when moving, hovering, or clicking the mouse. So for example, the normal pointer will have a hotspot at the upper left tip of the arrow, a crosshair cursor will have the hotspot at the center, and a finger pointer will have the hotspot at the tip of the pointer finger. Don't know much about X11 cursors, so I can't help much there. |
@ibeliever Thanks! How does one figure the numbers for the reference point? |

Loading - A material design circle loading animation
Help Cursor - A roboto question mark to the upper left of the cursor
The Regular Cursor, Xterm, Xterm horizontal, Link, Grab and Fleur hand cursor I don't have any ideas yet but I think its best to stay close to the generic looks but polish it up with material design :)
