Omnivore will shut down and delete all data by the end of the month (yes, they still haven't announced it in the app).

Just curious to which read it later app you will switch that has good Obsidian integration. Or will you use the Obsidian web clipper?

Hey there ! I am aware of this unfortunate shutdown. Was good while it lasted I suppose.

I wrote an article about Omnivore and Raindrop obsidian plugins.

I suppose you could use the raindrop one to sync your bookmarks and their highlights.

As for a complete "save to local" websites solutions, I don't have one yet. Maybe one could use MarkDownload browser extension to easily copy and paste markdowned page.

Or maybe keep an eye on the new obsidian clipper browser extension, it might be able to do it but I haven't searched for it.

My advice would be to go against an automated saving solution. I ended up having more than 1000 websites on my vault and it slowed down my search.

A manual approach using MarkDownload kinda "forces you" to save only the most important stuff.

As for the rest, syncing using raindrop to have only highlighted parts that helped you solve a specific problem you searched for might be more helpful in the future.

But that's just my 2 cents about it anyway, hope it helps 👍

Thanks for your quick reply!

Yes, that's my experience also. I want my vault to contain mainly my own notes and not content written by someone else.

That's what I have been doing even before knowing Omnivore. The Obsidian plugin for raindrop.io works well. But even with premium (which I have) it's not a "real" read-it-later app in the sense that I get an offline copy of the article in a reader-friendly view. And they seem to prioritize useless AI features over UX improvements nowadays.

The Obsidian clipper browser plugin works well, too. But I'm doing most of my reading on a tablet where I can't install browser plugins.

I will also try the MarkDownload browser plugin, thanks for the hint.
