Pre-Installed Image

Hello, everyone!!

I've been working on a pre-installed image that I am proud to say is worth testing. (Since this one can be setup and run without ANY internet connection, this can also be tested alongside any other installation if you choose to set it up as fully offline.)

Most noteworthy new feature: BirdNET-Pi will boot with its own access point.

For a headless installation, you can choose between using a VNC client (RealVNC) or a NoMachine client.

Steps:

1. Insert the SD card with the image and power up the Pi. Wait 5 minutes for the filesystem to expand and for the first-boot script to run.
2. Connect to the "BirdNET-Pi" network from the device that has your VNC or NoMachine client software. NoMachine will automatically discover BirdNET-Pi, but for VNC you will need to connect to 192.168.16.1
   (You can even do this all from your phone!)
   Default login:
   Username: pi
   Password: birdnetpi
3. Open the "Getting Started" document on the desktop and choose how to setup your installation.

If this installation will remain without any internet connectivity, then
you will need to manually set the date and time for the installation.
You can use this tool at any time to set the correct date and time after
power loss.

1) Double-click the icon in the bottom-left corner of the desktop titled 
   "Set Date and Time." Choose to "Execute in Terminal."
2) Using your arrow keys to navigate, change the date and time and press
   ENTER to set the date and time.

If this installation will utilize a WiFi network, you will need to setup
the network. BirdNET-Pi will prefer becoming a network client if there 
is a configured network connection. If BirdNET-Pi is unable to connect
to the network you configure here, it will present its "BirdNET-Pi"
access point for connection.

1) Double-click the icon near the bottom-left of the desktop titled "Con-
   figure Network." Choose to "Execute in Terminal."
2) Using your arrow keys, select the country in which BirdNET-Pi will 
   reside, then enter the network "SSID", that is, the network name.
   Finally, enter the passphrase for network access.
3) Done! Reboot and BirdNET-Pi will be on your network as 'birdnetpi'

                         BirdNET Configuration
               Set Locale, Latitude & Longitude, and Passwords

All installations will need to set their appropriate locale settings, 
the installation's latitude and longitude, and change the default pass-
words.

1) Double-click the Raspberry Pi icon directly to the right of the "Get-
   ting Started" document on the desktop titled "Raspberry Pi Configur-
   ation." Choose to "Execute."
2) Within the "Raspberry Pi Configuration" window, select the right-most 
   tab at the top titled "Localisation."

   -Locale: Set "Language" and "Country", but leave "Character Set" as
            UTF-8
   -Timezone
   -Keyboard
   -WiFi Country: Leave this alone as it will not affect the network.

1) Double-click the desktop icon directly below "Getting Started" titled
   "birdnet.conf." 
2) Locate the lines containing "LATITUDE=" and "LONGITUDE=". If you know
   these values, enter them now. If you have connected to the internet,
   you can get these values easily by copying and pasting the command
   below into the terminal:

	get_geo

1) Within the same document, locate the lines containing the following
   variables, replacing the "changeme" values to new passwords.

	CADDY_PWD=changeme
	DB_PWD=changeme
	DB_ROOT_PWD=changeme
	ICE_PWD=changeme

2)(Optional) If you own a custom domain/hostname that you would like to
  use for the installation, you can input those values now as well.

Now that you have configured the system to your locale, set the latitude
and longitude for the installation, and changed the default passwords,
it is time to run an update to start using those new values.

1) Open the web browser using the globe icon in the top left of the
   desktop, just to the right of the main Raspberry Pi Menu icon.
2) This should open the main BirdNET-Pi homepage for you. Select the 
   right-most tab along the top of the page labeled "Tools." Enter the 
   default credentials below to access the page:

	Username: birdnet
	Password: changeme

3) Finally, click the button with the blue text that reads "Update
   BirdNET-Pi" and wait 60 seconds. After the update, your system is 
   fully configured and ready to use.

			The BirdNET-Pi "App"

There is a desktop icon called "BirdNET-Pi" that can be used to 
view the BirdNET-Pi web interface in "Kiosk" mode. This App takes over
the screen and does not include the standard web browser features, so
you will need to know how to close it when you would like to do so.
Double-click it and choose to "Execute."

- To close the BirdNET-Pi App, press "Alt+F4". Some pages will also
  support using "Ctrl+W" or "Ctrl+Q".
- Reloading the web page (Crtl+R) is not supported on the log pages, but
  should work on the other pages.

Known bugs (SO FAR!!):

• Must reinstall icecast2 for livestream to work. sudo apt install --reinstall icecast2
  UPDATE I have a fix for this for the next image
  UPDATE#2 This actually might be temporarily fixed through the correct series of service restarts (first icecast2, then livestream), then permanently fixed with appropriate systemd service "After=" and "Requires=" and/or shifting these to be --user systemd services

• Power management is enabled on the NIC by default -- disabling power management keeps the HotSpot alive indefinitely -- otherwise power management causes it to disappear after a while.

  • Fix for now sudo iw dev wlan0 set power_save off (will be taken care of for the next image)

Thank you so much for testing!! I appreciate the feedback. The Raspberry Pi Organization just released a new RaspiOS based on Debian Bullseye, and so far it is just flat-out better. I'm excited to build a new image for it and have that be the BirdNET-Pi.
