Goal
The goal for the MET point system is to capture and incentivize important contributions to Meteora beyond TVL and volume. While those are key metrics, establishing a strong diverse and broad stakeholder base who will be active in DAO governance along with public advocates for Meteora is important for long-term success.
Considerations
Points be tied to a user not to wallets.
Weight earlier users/contributions over later users for the same contribution
Weight high-value/quality contributions over low-value.
Weight long-term contributions over short-term. LPing in a pool for 30 days is worth more than 1 day.
Earning points feedback should be as short as possible. e.g. If depositing into Meteora vaults earns a point, this should be reflected as soon as the action is completed and should not be delayed.

What are other point mechanisms have been successful?

Weighting to developers who have contributed to projects within the crypto space. One's aligned with Solana maybe weighted more but potentially included a broader amount of projects from other ecosystems and adjusting the weighting.
So if a developer also links their Github account, it adds extra weighting to the claim.
Why?
A healthy developer interest is always good. Developers more inclined to stick around and continue to build. Also, if time has been spent contributing to the ecosystem these are stakeholders who put time in and want long-term success for the grander crypto ecosystem as a whole.
