I'm not sure that we have to keep this account by the way

note for mfdata centos7 users:
see https://serverfault.com/questions/358324/ftp-doesnt-allow-usr-sbin-nologin-user

to fix the issue of the upload account not available through vsftpd: add "/sbin/nologin" add the end of the file /etc/shells

On CentOS 7, from a new mfdata installation, if you want to use the "upload" account as user for incoming ftp transfer:
1/ initialize the password of the upload account, with command:
sudo passwd upload
2/ then add /sbin/nologin in file /etc/shells
echo '/sbin/nologin' | sudo tee -a /etc/shells
3/ then restart your ftp daemon, for example:
sudo systemctl restart vsftpd

As a result you should be able to connect with your 'upload' user (and the associated password) from any ftp client.

I think we are going to stop to create automatically the upload account in mfdata during installation because it's tied to ftp only. And it's not plug & play because of linux distribution differences on the default ftp daemon configuration. So we are going to replace it with a dedicated note on the documentation

  • remove upload account
  • document how to configure a system ftp receiver with mfdata
