In hopes of helping others, some models need a different "Power On" string.
This worked for my model:
powerOn = "082200000002d4"
Instead of:
powerOn = "082200000002d6"
Not sure where the official standard is but I found the string ending in d4 referenced in multiple places on the web.
And you may also have to change the power settings to have "power on" functionality because when the highest level of power savings is enabled things like the exlink / rs232 are disabled during standby. In my menu that looked like this:
