I am also having this issue. |
I also am having this issue. Not sure exactly what is causing it, but my shift key will become unresponsive, and it won't fix until I close PowerToys. Then I can reopen PowerToys and it will continue to work for an indeterminate amount of time. |
Same issue happened to me just now, wouldn't have figured it was powertoys' fault if not for a reddit thread As additional information keyboard manager DOES NOT need to be enabled at all for this to happen, the shift key is rendered useless for key combinations so no shift+num for symbols like /()= and trying to type caps with shift makes it so you can't even type the character, not even the lowercase one so it seems it's trying to capture a win+shift+[key] but failing(? |
This happens to me most days, at least once a day. I fix it by locking then unlocking, per this wisdom from Issue #17344, which I in turn found from #26457 (contemporary to my initial investigation).
I'd personally love to see some bold documentation of this workaround on the Keyboard Manager UI. Love this tool, couldn't do my job without it tbh. Just gotta lock and unlock a few extra times a day. |

Steps to reproduce
For some reason, I can no longer use the Shift key normally when PowerToys is open. Please note that this does not happen right after PowerToys is up and running, but occurs after a while.
I cannot use any shortcuts that include the Shift key (like Ctrl + Shift + T), nor can I type uppercase letters via Shift + <Letter>. However, pressing the Shift key five times in a row, will open up the Sticky Keys dialog, which means that the key isn't fully unresponsive, but is being rendered with limited functionality.
I have no re-mappings in the PowerToys' Keyboard Manager that includes the Shift key.
This has not occurred to me before v0.85.1. It was working fine until I upgraded from v0.83.0 to 0.85.1 via Scoop.
I came to the conclusion that it was PowerToys that was causing this unusual behaviour, because when I manually quit PowerToys, everything went back to normal and the Shift key was working fine.
I have no clue why this would happen. Perhaps some element of PowerToys is interfering with a Windows keyboard setting?
