Is there a way to map two button combinations as a keyboard key? i want to map it so that pressing both start buttons (or even a long press on the start button) will trigger the escape key to exit games.

Sadly no, but that is something I was working on years ago. Holding would also be nice.

If you use Steam, you might be able to use its controller configuration to get what you're looking for.

Thanks for the reply. I am using the Hyperspin AIO Attraction II in an arcade cab. i just have a few games that NEED an escape key and its damn frustrating to need to p[ug in a keyboard to get out of the games... im still looking for a simple solution

On a related note one of the buttons is mapped to 'q' but in most emulators this is also the key to quit. im wondering if it can be remapped or will that not work? it means whenever i hit the player 2's right trigger - i get booted out of the game.
