Chat Message Background Opacity Edge Fading

Describe the solution you'd like
An option in the settings to make chat messages have a background like the edit box. Currently, the background starts fading as you approach the left and right edges of the chat box. It'd be great if the opacity was the same from the left edge of the chat box, to the right edge. Hopefully this wasn't confusing!
