Incredibly slow launch #1200
Comments
I feel this so much. It is incredibly slow compared to Apple’s standard implementation. I guess the problem is that Lockwise needs to fetch the credentials every time, while iCloud reads an internal cache first. For me it is like 15 seconds Lockwise vs 0.5 seconds iCloud |
I just assumed it was not working and quit the app and reopend it and then just manually copied the password. |
Sometimes it just doesn't open. This really defeats the purpose of having a password manager. The point would be to be faster to use it than to write the stuff manually. |
@dancojocaru2000 |
It is so much slower than the iOS keychain, this is the biggest problem with it by far. |
Not sure why you closed this, @st3fan, this is still very much of an issue. Lockwise remains slow to launch even on the most up-to-date hardware. That’s not too much of an issue when launching the app directly, but when filling a password using autofill, it is infuriatingly slow. It’s often even hard to tell if anything is happening at all because there’s no visual feedback while it’s loading. |
Same problem here, I think it has always been the case. 8-10 seconds when launching app directly, and as mentionned above, when autofilling it can take like 20seconds without any feedbacks nor loading screen. Long enough to just abandon. |
I have been experiencing this issue ever since I started using Lockwise. Sometimes it works after just a few seconds, sometimes it takes minutes or just hangs forever. At this point it's literally faster to copy-paste passwords manually from the Lockwise app. I strongly suspect that there is some kind of network interaction happening. The reason is that enabling airplane mode reliably fixes everything, and reduces the delay to zero. Perhaps telemetry is the culprit? |
I think the real problem here is that the app tries to always fetch updated passwords instead of using local cache copies |
This is really frustrating, either slow or stuck forever. |
I just put a $100 bounty on this issue: https://www.bountysource.com/issues/99610275-incredibly-slow-launch |
I've been using Lockwise since its release, and being super slow compared to alternative tools (1password, LastPass, iOS keychain) is the top issue. I've been tempted to switch to paid alternative several times, but yet I'm here to bump this thread one more time. But as said, no one seems to care, no milestone, no assignee. |
It just works better on iOS |
same here. at its current speed, copying and pasting the password is just faster. this should be a top priority issue |
I'm here for the same problem... with few hopes |
Me too, I even understand if this takes long to load when you first open firefox. But why do you need to open lockwise for it to start loading the data? It has asked for the credentials when starting firefox. |
On Ubuntu, it was not so slow synching before version 92! |
Lockwise is being discontinued, and its functionality (including autofilling in other apps) will be moved to the Firefox app sometime in December: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/end-of-support-firefox-lockwise So I guess this issue won't be fixed any more. Eh, it's only been annoying us for 1.5 years, I can wait a few more weeks. |
I would be super ashamed as a developer if I had developed & shipped such slow software. |
Let's not blame individual developers for organizational decisions - they're not the ones deciding how many resources each project gets. I'd assume that Lockwise is going to get a lot more attention by moving into the Firefox app, so let's hope that this issue (namely that it wants to sync every time you want to fill a password) won't even exist in the Firefox implementation. |
Vision statement / What / Requirements
The app should launch fast when a password is requested from the browser. Right now the splash screen can stay on for a minute and then it still takes a significant time to display the list, often not even filtering by the site when launched from Firefox (both 2017 iPad Pro & iPhone 6s).
Impact
Significantly less frustration. Right now I wouldn’t use the app if it were not for sharing passwords with desktop Firefox. It’s so slow.
Acceptance criteria
Fast startup.
