Switching between primary and secondary layout

Hey,
Is there a way to switch between primary and secondary layouts, if the appearance is "letters only" (default Messagease setting)?
My best guess, "keyboard" icon, didn't have any effect.

Please disregard.
Instead of setting primary and secondary layout, I should set two primary layouts, then the "keyboard" switch works.
