Installing EGSnrc of wsl (VS)

Hi, I tried to install EGSnrc on a linux system, but I am always stucked at the step where I have to make cd ~/EGSnrc/HEN_HOUSE/egs++/view/ && make --quiet --print-directory, and the errors are as follows:

f Makefile_ my_machine= hhouse=
make: f: Permission denied
make: [Makefile:34: all] Error 127 (ignored).

What can I do with this?

Please post the full installation log, found in HEN_HOUSE/log.

The compilation did not complete and no log file can be found in HEN_HOUSE/log, below are the output from the terminal.

I've had a similar issue with my new Fedora 41 install that I was going to troubleshoot this weekend. I wonder if there is some gcc library update that is causing issues.

Since the installation of wsl did not work, so halfway through this thread, I started to try the installation within Ubuntu on VirtualBox.

@JSWong19 that should work, just don't switch to the develop branch (this isn't in the instructions). Currently the develop branch won't compile.

It works now, the installation completed with the example and egs_view running fine., even thoughcd ~/EGSnrc/HEN_HOUSE/gui/ && make --quiet --print-directory did not work, but as you said, it does not matter much. Thanks a lot!

I am investigating a possible gcc or os level regression. If possible would you be able to install Ubuntu 22.04 and try again?

wsl --install Ubuntu-22.04
wsl -d Ubuntu-22.04

Currently the develop branch fails to compile with gcc-13 on Ubuntu 24 probably due to this change: #1170

But it works with gcc-11 on red hat.
