ENSDF new database replacement #986

Hi everyone,
I want to use the Ac-225 new ENSDF file I got from the IAEA database and replace it with the old one in EGSnrc_CLRP\HEN_HOUSE\spectra\lnhb
it seems the new format is different and cannot be read by the MC code. Does anyone know a way to use these new ENSDF data?

In the new format you posted, there's no decay data. It's almost all just comments. Was that just part of the file, or maybe you neglected to select the specific decay data before downloading the file?

Edit: By the way, I recommend adding it as a new file instead of overwriting the old one. In your input file you can provide the whole path to the file to select it using ensdf file =

What are you getting? You can see from the file that the Q value is 7201.4 keV, and there are alpha records that look like the following, where 7066.9 is the energy.

Edit: Yes it would automatically include the beta decay as well, but in the lnhb file there are not actually any beta decays listed. Notice there are no lines with "B" at the start.

I am getting wrong results for some other nuclide too
Tl-209 for example
there is a huge difference between the Q value and the calculated version
i think I might play with the AE UE and other cut off energies see what happens

Keep in mind that the beta decays are emitted in a whole sampled spectrum not at the maximum value. If you are curious, there is an option to output the beta spectra. You could set ECUT and PCUT very high to deposit all decays in the source region and collect the total energy emitted per decay.

	AP = 4.401
	UP = 5.500

I set the AE and AP high
to use ECUT and PCUT values I should delete the values for the above part right?
or just remove the entire section?

I think if both ECUT and PCUT are set to immediately absorb all the source particles, changes to AE and AP won't make much difference. But you can check.
