What blocks this from "going mainstream"? Or at least being easy to install from nixpkgs...

Another (possibly better) way to solve this would be to get this on Hackage and Stackage.

The benefit of being in nixpkgs would be that thunkSource could be provided for use in projects whereas getting on Hackage would mostly just make it easier for people to get the binaries.
