DMs not coming through

Problem

I asked @SebinSong to DM me after the 1.2.9 release, and he sent me a message but I got no push notification and not even a red number next to his name:

Only after loading the DM with him did I see that there were new messages. Furthermore, it seems like these new messages are not getting cached because each time I switch to the DM with him I first see the old messages, and after a very brief delay do the new ones appear (EDIT: I'm not sure about this though, they seem to be cached now).
